The firm was founded in 1933 by Harold Wolf Fisher.

After qualifying as a chartered accountant, he spent most of the next six years in Venezuela and Trinidad as an internal auditor for Shell. Returning to Britain in 1933 and struggling to find a suitable job in the middle of the Depression, he took the bold move of setting up his own firm – and never looked back.

No sooner had the young firm got started than world events took over. Harold is mother had Jewish friends and family in Berlin and, over the next five years, he bravely helped many of them to flee the Nazis. He made frequent visits to Germany, helping countless people to leave and emigrate to safety in Britain. Many of those he helped went on to become clients of his fledgling firm – and some of their families are still HW Fisher clients today.
